Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Homer Bailey has been named the National League Player of the Week for the last week of the season.

The 23-year-old posted a 2-0 record with a 0.69 earned run average. Over 13 innings, Bailey recorded 14 strikeouts against four walks.

His final two outings capped a strong finish for the right-hander, who finally began to flash some of the potential that made him the seventh overall pick in the 2004 draft. Bailey was 6-1 with a 1.70 ERA over his last nine appearances.

Others considered for the award were Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, San Francisco third baseman/catcher Pablo Sandoval, Washington shortstop Ian Desmond and Chicago pitcher Ryan Dempster.
