Recap: Villanova vs. Pittsburgh
Villanova, PA (Sports Network) - Durand Johnson and Trey Zeigler each scored 13 points to pace the Pittsburgh Panthers to a 58-43 win over the Villanova Wildcats in a Big East conference brawl at the Pavilion.
Steven Adams had nine points and Tray Woodall had eight points to go with five assists for Pittsburgh (14-4, 2-3 Big East) which had lost three of its last four.
Darrun Hilliard had 14 points for Villanova (11-6, 2-2) which has lost consecutive contests after a seven-game winning streak.
It was Villanova that led 23-22 at the break after both teams struggled in the first half. The Wildcats hit on 30.4 percent of their shots including 4- of-8 from beyond the arc while Pittsburgh connected on 30.8 percent but just 2-of-8 from 3-point range.
The Wildcats continued to struggle in the second half connecting on just 33.3 percent of their shot attempts including just 1-of-8 from 3-point range. The Panthers improved to 43.5 percent shooting while holding a 15-5 edge from the free-throw line to coast to the win.
Pittsburgh had a 39-27 edge in rebounds and outscored Villanova 24-16 on points in the paint.
