Recap: Kent State vs. Coll of Charleston

Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Nori Johnson poured in 27 points and Trent Wiedeman tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds, as the College of Charleston downed Kent State, 80-73, in a BracketBusters game at the MAC Center.

Antwaine Wiggins scored 17 and pulled down eight boards for the Cougars (17-11), who won for the fourth time in five contests. They were awesome in the second half, making nearly 59 percent of their shots.

Johnson led the prolific shooting attack, making 5-of-7 three-point shots on the day.

The Golden Flashes (19-7), who had a seven-game winning streak stopped, were led by 16 points and 13 rebounds from Chris Evans. Carlton Guyton scored 16 in defeat.

Kent State struggled to a 35.9 percent performance from the field, including 6-of-29 from beyond the arc. They held a 47-34 rebounding advantage, but committed too many fouls, which led to the Cougars going 26-of-37 at the charity stripe.

The Golden Flashes scored the game's opening six points and led 15-3 following a dunk from Johnson with nearly 12 minutes left in the half.

The College of Charleston rallied and grabbed a 36-33 lead at the intermission, then scored the opening nine of the second half, capped by a Wiedeman layup.

Down by as many as 19 in the second half, the Golden Flashes scored nine in a row to close the gap to 68-66 following a Guyton layup with 3:53 remaining. The Cougars never lost the lead thanks in part to Kent State's inability to sink key shots down the stretch.
