Recap: B-Y-U vs. Portland

Provo, UT (Sports Network) - Brandon Davies led the way with 25 points as the BYU Cougars downed the Portland Pilots, 76-66, in a West Coast Conference bout at the Marriott Center.

For the Cougars (24-7, 12-4 WCC), Brock Zylstra added 20 points and Charles Abouo finished with 16 points.

Ryan Nicholas registered a double-double for the Pilots (6-23, 3-13) with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Tanner Riley scored 16 points and Tim Douglas chipped in 10 points.

BYU shot well to open the contest, hitting 46.9 percent from the floor, including 4-of-12 from beyond the arc. Portland struggled, making only 39.4 percent and just 3-of-11 from three-point range. The Cougars also had an 8-0 advantage at the free-throw line, as they took a 42-29 lead into halftime.

After the break, the Pilots shot much better, connecting on 48.3 percent from the field, including 4-of-12 three-point attempts. The Cougars improved on that, making 50 percent from the field, but missed all but one of their five three-pointers. BYU led by as many as 17 in the half, as they handed the Pilots their sixth straight loss.

BYU converted 17 Portland turnovers into 20 points. The Cougars outscored the Pilots in the paint, 38-26.
