Recap: George Washington vs. Duquesne
Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - David Pellom and Lasan Kromah scored 11 points apiece, as the George Washington Colonials earned a 56-51 win over the Duquesne Dukes in an Atlantic 10 bout at the Smith Center.
Pellom grabbed 10 rebounds coming off the bench, while Dwayne Smith scored nine and finished with 11 boards for the Colonials (10-18, 5-9 A-10), who had dropped seven of their previous eight outings entering today's game.
The Dukes (15-13, 6-8) were unable to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season, as they shot just 37.3 percent from the floor and went 9-of-17 at the free-throw line. B.J. Monteiro scored a game-high 13 points, although he was the team's only double-digit scorer.
GW shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the first half while Duquesne managed only nine field goals in 27 attempts (.333). Still, the score was tied 20-20 late in the frame until the Colonials went on an 8-1 spurt and took a 31-25 lead into intermission.
The Dukes never led in the second half, but they kept it close and eventually tied the score at 46-46 with 3:31 to play. However, GW answered with a jumper from Tony Taylor and a three from Nemanja Mikic to go back ahead by five with two minutes remaining, and they sealed it with free throws down the stretch.
GW simply dominated the interior play, boasting a 42-24 rebounding advantage for the game and holding a 34-20 edge in points in the paint.Game Notes
