Since 2010, CincItalia has showcased aspects of Italian culture never before experienced at a Cincinnati festival. St. Catharine of Siena’s CincItalia is a true celebration of Italian heritage. The annual event draws attendees from the entire tri-‐state by offering entertainment from national music acts, activities for all ages, and authentic cuisine prepared by local Italian restaurants and Cincinnati's Italian cultural societies. New this year is an Italian Market with sundries and gift items for purchase to re-‐create your own Italian experience at home.

Who:
St. Catharine of Siena in Westwood, in partnership with the Order Sons of Italy in America, the United Italian Society, and La Societa di Fuscaldese Femminile.

Why:
Funds raised during the three-‐day CincItalia celebration allows St. Catharine of Siena Parish and School to provide for the spiritual and educational needs of the Westwood community, as they have proudly done for more than 100 years. The festival also benefits San Antonio Italian Church and scholarship funds of the three Italian societies.

Cincinnati Arthritis Walk

The Arthritis Walk is a fun-filled fund-raising event benefiting the Arthritis Foundation. The Walk is a non-competitive, fully accessible 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course with a one-mile option. The path is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

Hospice of Cincinnati and Fernside Summertime Classic

The 11th annual Hospice of Cincinnati and Fernside Summertime Classic was a huge success, raising funds to support bereavement programs for children, teens and adults. Kenwood Country Club was the venue for this year’s two-day event that offered the opportunity for both golfers and non-golfers to support Fernside, an affiliate of Hospice of Cincinnati.

On Sunday, May 20, nearly 300 guests enjoyed dinner, a silent auction and a live auction led by Jay Karp of Main Auction Galleries. The highlight of the evening featured St. Xavier sophomore, Brad Cutter, who shared his Fernside experience following his father’s death in 2002. Brad has returned to Fernside as a volunteer, welcoming families as they arrive at new family orientations and as a junior camp counselor at Fernside’s Camp Erin-Cincinnati. And on Monday, May 21, 200 golfers enjoyed lunch compliments of Gold Star Chili and Honeybaked Ham, an afternoon scramble on Kenwood Country Club’s two courses and dinner compliments of Maggiano’s.

Since its inception in 2004, the Hunger Walk and 5K Run has raised nearly $1 million for member agencies serving 20 counties in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana. The 3.1-mile walk and run will begin at 537 East Pete Rose Way at 9:00 a.m. This year, a new course courtesy of Cheviot Savings Bank will take participants across the Taylor-Southgate Bridge, through the streets of Newport, across the Purple People Bridge and ending at Sawyer Point, on the east side of P&G Pavilion.

Race packets for registered participants will be available from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 at the Freestore Foodbank’s Mayerson Distribution Center located at 1250 Tennessee Avenue in Bond Hill. Interested participants may also register at the packet pick-up Saturday and Sunday or beginning at 7:00 a.m. the morning of the race at Sawyer Point.

Registration fees for the walk/run are $20, or $25 with a t-shirt. After the walk/run attendees and the community can enjoy a party featuring great samples from our sponsors and live music.

Walk To Cure Diabetes is the fastest growing fund raising event in the history of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Last year, nearly $86 million was raised through the Walk To Cure Diabetes to fund diabetes research. This year, the Walk To Cure Diabetes is expected to surpass $90 million.

Last year, over 500,000 people walked to cure diabetes at one of 200 sites throughout the country. This year, men, women, and children including those from over 5,000 large corporations and local companies will participate at one of our 200 sites. Funds are raised as walkers ask friends, relatives and co-workers to sponsor them for participating in the Walk.

The JDRF Ride To Cure Diabetes is an adventure of a lifetime. Riders from around the world take on two challenges: raising the critical money needed to fund the research that will cure diabetes, and reaching a personal training goal that will prepare them for their destination cycling experience. Participants spend the weeks before the Ride working with a USA Cycling certified coach and a JDRF fundraising coach to help them reach their goals. Be part of the team that moves us towards a cure with every mile pedaled and every dollar raised.

As a rider, you’ll commit to a fundraising minimum (packages start at $2,000) and in exchange, JDRF will provide you with support and coaching during the months leading up to as well as throughout the JDRF Ride weekend. JDRF has created powerful online fundraising tools to make it easier for you to reach your goal, and your local JDRF chapter can help you with materials, ideas, and support.

Fighting Hunger Together

Customers can visit Walmart’s Facebook page to vote for one of 200 communities hardest hit by unemployment. The community with the most votes will receive $1 million to help fight hunger. The next 20 communities will each receive $50,000 for hunger relief. The Facebook campaign will also provide information on how users can donate or volunteer with hunger fighting organizations in their local communities.

Walmart is also inviting customers to visit one of its 3,854 Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets nationwide and purchase products from participating suppliers that will help provide meals to families struggling with hunger. In-store signs will help direct customers to participating products and on-package labels will advise customers how to generate meals by entering product codes online, sharing a hashtag on Twitter or scanning a QR code.

Through this effort, more than 42 million meals will be donated to Feeding America food banks and Action for Healthy Kids.

Power Pack Program

What is the Power Pack program? A Power Pack contains nutritious food for children to take home each weekend. Students who take part in the program receive Power Packs each Friday so they have something to eat when they’re away from school. Power Packs contain anywhere from nine to 12 shelf-stable, food items. Food is chosen based on nutritional value and how easy it is for children to prepare.
