Three People Found Shot On Over-the-Rhine Street Corner

Cincinnati Police are on the scene after three people were found shot on an Over-the-Rhine street corner on Thursday afternoon.

Detectives were called to Elm and Liberty around 12:30 p.m.

Two women and a man are at the hospital being treated for gunshot wounds.

Officers have not released the names or conditions of those victims but they do say the injuries are not life-threatening.

There were several fights in the area after the shootings which police had to break up.

Witnesses told cops that a maroon colored car left the scene after the shootings. A few moments later, officers got a report that car matching that description crashed into a pole on John and Oliver Streets, about five blocks from the shooting scenes. Witnesses of the crash say everyone in the car jumped out and ran off after the crash.

Local 12 is on the scene and we'll have new information as soon as it is available.

Police Find Body Of Fourth Student Killed in Field Trip Landslide

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Authorities in St. Paul say they've recovered the body of a child missing since a rockslide killed a classmate and left two others injured at a park along the Mississippi River.

Assistant Fire Chief Jim Smith tells reporters that crews found the body of the missing child late Thursday morning.

Rain-saturated soil gave way Wednesday afternoon as the boy and other fourth-graders from a St. Louis Park elementary school walked along a path in Lilydale Regional Park. They were on a fossil-hunting field trip.

Another child died in the landslide. Authorities say one child remains in serious condition in a hospital.

(Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.

Story filed earlier on Thursday, May 23, 2013.

ST. PAUL, MINN. (CBS News) A fourth-grade field trip to a Mississippi River park popular with fossil hunters turned deadly Wednesday when gravel saturated by persistent rain gave way, killing one child and injuring two others. A fourth child was missing.

The landslide at Lilydale Regional Park swept over a group of children from Peter Hobart Elementary School in St. Louis Park, burying one to the waist and completely burying another, Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said. Another child suffered minor injuries in the landslide, which happened about 1:15 p.m. The three children were taken to Regions Hospital, and one died, Zaccard said. The child with minor injuries was treated and released, and the other child is in serious condition, Zaccard said.

The search proceeded cautiously for the fourth child as light rain fell throughout the afternoon. Zaccard described that search as a recovery effort. Crews were trying to make the scene safe Wednesday night, using fire hoses to wash away loose dirt before it falls on searchers, Zaccard said. Digging had stopped earlier, and crews were setting up lights and preparing to search into the night, he said.

"Obviously we have a very tragic situation here today," Mayor Chris Coleman said at a news conference hours after the gravel slide.

Police and firefighters dug frantically with shovels and their hands to get to the children, Zaccard said. He estimated it took an hour to rescue a child buried to the waist, and another half-hour to reach the buried child as more workers and equipment were moved in.

As news of the gravel slide broke, parents gathered at the school, located in a western Minneapolis suburb several miles away, to await their children. Zaccard said several days of rain had softened the ground at the park, but it and nearby Cherokee Park were open and available to the public Wednesday. Brad Meyer, the city's parks and recreation spokesman, said it's rare to close a park "unless there is a major hazardous condition." "We didn't have any indication that we should close the park or that it was unsafe," Meyer said. The area is popular for school field trips because students can hunt for fossils in the soft sandstone cliffs, said Michael Rutzick, who was at the park Wednesday and lives in nearby Mendota Heights. "It's all sandstone. Sandstone and trees," Rutzick said.

Tammy Olson, who lives two blocks away, was at the scene with her two young nephews Wednesday. She said she never considered the park dangerous. "I've been here six years, and my husband has been here 23. He said there's never been an issue with accidents down there," Olson said.

A firefighter also was injured by a falling rock but was expected to recover, Zaccard said. Another firefighter suffered a back injury, and both firefighters were back home, the fire department tweeted.

Norwood Family Finds Giant Sinkhole in Basement

A Norwood family awakens to find a giant sinkhole in their basement. Now they'll have to find a new place to live after their home is determined to be too dangerous to inhabit.

Crews were called to the home on Maple Avenue after the power went out. The family renting the home went to check the breaker box and found eight feet of water in their basement. After the water subsided, there was a giant crater in their basement floor.

The water was so powerful that it sucked a mattress sitting in the corner of the basement completely into the Earth.

The house has been condemned and Metropolitan Sewer District is relocating the residents.

MSD says they're not surprised by the sinkhole. A sinkhole was reported outside the home in January. There was some dispute as to who was responsible. In April, MSD filled the hole but they say it now appears that the sinkhole moved into the basement.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The man who famously put down his Big Mac to help rescue three women held captive for a decade in a Cleveland house will never have to pay for another burger in his hometown.

Charles Ramsey has been promised free burgers for life at more than a dozen Cleveland-area restaurants.

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports that the restaurant where Ramsey worked as a dishwasher initially created a special burger in his honor, but eateries in the city decided a larger tribute was due.

Ramsey was called a hero after helping Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight break out of the west side house May 6. Arial Castro is now facing charges.

The newspaper said Ramsey was traveling and would get his "Chuck Card" when he returns.

___

Information from: The Plain Dealer, http://www.cleveland.com

©2013 Associated Press.
Thursday Morning Forecast-Find Your Jacket!

We’ve seen some showers working through the area early this morning. These showers have formed along a cold front which is moving east of Cincinnati.

Behind this front, Local 12 Meteorologist John Gumm says we can expect much cooler air today with highs only reaching up to near 70. There will be some more scattered showers and even isolated thunderstorms developing this afternoon and into early this evening as another cold front moves into the area.

You’ll need the jacket tomorrow morning because behind this front, we’ll clear out and turn much colder with temperatures in the 40s!

Sunshine returns for Friday, but some rain chances return for Memorial Day weekend.

For forecast details, click on the video link.
