AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia woman diagnosed with a rare, flesh-eating disease is set to leave a hospital after nearly two months.

Aimee Copeland's father said last week his daughter will be released Monday from Doctors Hospital in Augusta. The 24-year-old will move to an inpatient rehabilitation clinic. She'll spend the next several weeks learning to move herself using a wheelchair after having her left leg, right foot and both hands amputated.

The graduate student at the University of West Georgia contracted the rare infection after suffering a deep cut falling from a broken zip-line May 1.

Copeland's speedy recovery has defied doctors' initial prognosis. Her father says they at first said she had a slim chance of surviving. She spent weeks sedated and using a respirator while undergoing amputations and skin grafts.

I'm amazed at this young woman's strength. Prayers for continued improvement to her health. But, Cincinnatus is right about infections. I've seen people go in with one thing, and come out with MRSA. And no, not everyone will get MRSA or another similar infection. You have to have an external, open wound where the infection can easily transmit to the new person. Jeesh!

Because obviously everyone else in the hospital got it as well, Cincinnatus. There is no reason to make comments like that. Everyone should be happy she survived, not question the hospital. If she is not worrying about it, you have no reason to.

I heard that hospitals are the primary place where people contract flesh eating bacteria. I bet she did not get it from the fall and the cut, but from the cleaning up and stitching process at the hospital.

I cannot even imagine what this young woman has gone through. I doubt that I could have done it. Best wishes for the future!

WTF does this have to do with politicos for crying out loud? This young lady has shown courage, strength and inspriration after fate handed her very bitter pill to swallow. But I saw her Dad interviewed over the weekend and she has amazing familial AND public support. YOU GO GIRL!

The government does this routinely whether they are republican or democrat so that comment is kind of ignorant. Besides, what does that have to do with this brave woman? I wish her the best of luck with her recovery.

Now this is someone that truly needs a charity for her. Not some poeple from stupid foreign country that come over here to get medical attention. I'm sure her insurance topped out after being in the hospital for 2 months. I will be checking on this story and would gladly donate to this cause. I NEVER give a dime to foreign countries when there are veterans and other people in our own country that need help. Obama takes care of the foreigners with our money whether we want him to or not so they won't get any of my money willingly. Obama is a foreigner so that is why he takes care of his own!!!!!!
