NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (AP) - A young eastern Ohio man is likely facing prison time after causing an all-terrain vehicle accident that left a 17-year-old friend with critical head injuries.
The Times-Reporter of New Philadelphia reports that 19-year Zachary Ayers pleaded no contest this week to vehicular assault. A prosecutor said the plea agreement likely will result in a sentence of nine months in prison and two years of probation.
He'll be sentenced March 20.
Prosecutors said Ayers' blood alcohol level was 0.117 when he drove the ATV off a gravel road near New Philadelphia on Sept. 3. The vehicle hit a ditch and overturned, throwing the two teens off.
The passenger, Quenten Fabiano, is still recovering at a rehabilitation center.
Fabiano's parents said they didn't want to see Ayers face more serious charges.
