It's kind of a given that kids of cops and kids of preachers are the ones that act up the most. At least it was true in school years.

Really? Exactly what did I "wag my tongue" about? I made a simple statement. There is more to the story than any of us know. One bad apple maybe, but two? I didn’t comment on the job he has done as sheriff or if he did the right thing when his son got into trouble. He might be a great guy but something went wrong. I don’t think this an unreasonable observation based on the limited facts we have. All I did was call it out.

I do not think this Dad has to concern himself any longer with the fairly new addage...be kind & treat your kids well, they'll be choosing your nursing home!

in response to VoiceOfReason2 - Zemer Hammond is an upstanding member of the Owen County Community. Not only is he an elected official, he worked many years as a Deputy before he won election. I do not live in Owen County, but I live close, and I personally know Sheriff Hammond from working in the Owenton Community for many years. I know . . . it is easy to wag your tongue at something with partial facts, but Sheriff Hammond did the RIGHT thing by upholding the law. Owen County is very fortunate to have a man like Zemer Hammond on their side!

Yep. Dad has some responsibility. Responsibility to follow the law -- no matter if he is the dad. He is the sheriff, elected to serve the people and to follow the law -- EVEN CONCERNING HIS OWN KIDS. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Our children are going to do what they want to do once they are grown. Plenty people's children are charged with murder or killing someone or trying to kill someone -- most of them are just common citizens. Not the sheriff.

I "don't know" all of the facts here, but I can attest to that it might just be a case of "tough love".. The "sheriff/father" might just have been put in the position of having to choose between standing up and defending his principles and oath regarding the "law",( OUR LAW )and making an exception because his son is a "suspect".. Sometimes other family members aren't as loyal to the oath, when it comes to kin.. Just saying that there are at least two sides to every story..

Not condoning what his children did, but this sheriff must be a real piece of work. One child charge with murder and the other one charge with attempting to kill him. This does not just happen. I think dad has some responsibility.
