EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Police in Evansville say a 4-year-old boy was fatally injured when a large television apparently fell on him.

Police say it appears the television fell off its stand and landed on Gennix Starks. The Evansville Courier & Press and WFIE-TV report emergency workers were called to an apartment where the boy was injured Wednesday night and that he later died at a hospital.

Police say investigators believe the boy's death was accidental based on physical evidence at the apartment and preliminary medical reports.

The purpose is not to berate the parents, but rather to warn others about the dangers that may be in their home. I still think it was an old tube type TV(CRT). Most flat panel TVs are not that heavy in comparison.

Pvernon - 11/23/2012 11:05 PM - you are kidding, right? If you have a TV, you can afford a TV, you can afford the correct way to mount the thing. In 40 years of working near, in and around electronics, I have never heard of a CRT (old style) TV falling on some one. I have heard of panel TV's falling. IN FACT, right there on page one of the owners manual is a WARNING about how unstable they are.

It was probably an old style tube TV. People who are stupid think nothing of putting them in kids rooms on rickety walmart stands.

HammeringHank - 12:46 PM - panel TV's are unstable, they are tall and thin. CRT TV's have a very wide and deep base due to the neck of the CRT. My bet, it was a 40" (plus) that fell. My 46" plasma monitor is HEAVY. If I put it on a table, it could fall if pushed or pulled. Instead, I have it in a wall mount. ALSO FYI - as every tech type knows, RTFM means READ THE FRICKEN MANUAL.

What a terrible accident and that's what it was -- an accident. Sorry for this family.
