BALTIMORE - A 6-year-old's actions during a game of cops and robbers on the playground is raising some questions: was it child's play or a serious threat of violence?

For the second time in less than a month, 6-year-old Rodney Lynch was suspended for using his fingers as an imaginary gun. CNN source WJZ said the incident happened at Montgomery County school.

"[I was] just pointing my fingers like this and then [another student] did the POW sound and I just went like [this]. And then I got sent to the office again," said Lynch.

The school reversed its decision after Rodney's parents appealed.

"They're saying he threatened a student. Threatened to shoot a student. He was playing," said Rodney Lynch, senior, Rodney's father.

Maryland-based child psychologist Joe Kaine said most 6-year-olds' minds aren't developed enough to understand why their idea of fun play might make adults upset.

ctskywarn - Give it a rest, the child pointed a finger not a stick, water gun or a bb gun, it was a finger. You are not going to win here. My wife is a teacher so your point is mute.

You know, I think most of you folks miss the point here. The problem is here a complete lack of respect for teachers and school administrators. Do you think folks think it is easy to become a school principal? Most have either a Masters or a Doctorate degree and previously had years and years of educational experience. Who are WE to judge the actions of a school principal when done of you were even there to witness the actual incident? The majority of teachers are wonderful people who deserve our utmost respect for educating our young people in such a challenging environment. An environment where parents give them zero respect for what they do and question their every action. It is really a thankless job. And no... I am not a teacher and I don't work in a school. But, I am friends with a lot of teachers and they are wonderful people who truly love kids. Yeah, the punishment may have been too harsh for how the MEDIA is reporting what happened. But, keep in mind, there are 2 sides to every story and the school may have a different view of what happened that is not being properly reported. I give the school the benefit of the doubt NOT the media.
