A Marine from Wilmington, who was seriously wounded just weeks before he was scheduled to return home from his most recent tour of duty, is the recipient of a Purple Heart. 27-year-old Corporal Josh Sams received his medal from President Barack Obama recently.
Corporal Sam's legs were amputated after he stepped on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in January. He is recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center. His mother says the medal ceremony was an emotional moment.
Corporal Sams has served for six years and was on his third and final deployment.
