Cincinnati Fire dispatch and Duke Energy received dozens of calls early Wednesday morning concerning a strange smell.
"We've taken calls from Walnut Hills to Mariemont," said Duke Energy's Sally Thelen. The company sent trucks to several locations, but all gas levels were in the normal range, according to Thelen.
She speculates a truck transporting natural gas may have come through the area since the calls came in from various communities.
Local 12 News contacted Cincinnati Fire District 1. "The atmosphere is heavy and the sewer fumes can't dissipate," said the representative. He went on to say that it happens periodically throughout the year.
Also, there was a an underground fire Tuesday night outside of Macy's corporate building on W. 7th St. Downtown. Crews were still on the scene at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. However, officials said the smell did not come from the fire in an underground electrical vault.
