A 29-year-old man was murdered in a drive-by shooting one year ago and his killer is still on the loose. Family and friends are using this anniversary to call for justice in Jason Beal's death.
He was shot to death in his car on Rockdale Street in Avondale on July 28, 2010. About fifty people took to the streets of Avondale Wednesday night, reminding neighbors that Jason Beal's killer is still on the streets. His mother, Jeanne Jones, hopes someone will come forward with a tip that could solve the crime. "That our people will join hands and think about..We don't want to live in fear we want to be free we want our kids to grow up safe in our neighborhoods."
In a prayer circle, family members wore t-shirts and held balloons with pictures of Jason Beal. A sign summed up the thoughts of Beal's family and others who lost loved ones to gun violence. These people have become family to Bridgett Smith---whose son's 2008 murder remains unsolved.
The march for Jason Beal took a longer route in the Avondale neighborhood--in hopes of reaching more people. His mother hopes the effort pays off. "And whoever is doing those tragic things and keeping us all bound up that they will be revealed and things are definitely going to come out and my sons murder will be solved."
