Police have released the names of those involved in a Northern Kentucky crash that left three people with serious injuries.

A car hit a tractor-trailer that appeared to be exiting I-71/75 in Erlanger around 11 p.m. Thursday night.   However, police said it looks like the truck driver, 56 year old Floyd Smith of Dallas, Oregon, changed courses and tried to drive straight across the roadway.

The three people in the car-27 year old Skyler Hahn of Crestview Hills, 33 year old Nadina Shields of Highland Heights, and 36 year old Edward Wilbers of Erlanger, had to be cut out and were taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

It's still not clear what charges may be filed.

farmer nate- yep, i have an old saying, "if he's bigger than me, he can probably whip my ass." they are bigger than me so i avoid them. i dont drive next to them if i can help it, even though one saved my life once, by his quick thinking and driving skills.

@ dazed - The National Highway Act, which provided for the upgrade and construction of the federal highway system, including the interstates, was enacted with the advice of strategic industries on how to move essential war materials, and with guidance of the then War Department for the movement of troops and materiel during national crises. President Eisenhower was also impressed with the German Autobahn system and encorporated that concept into the highway system. Thus, passenger cars are guests, so to speak, on the interstates, whose primary purposes are interstate commerce and military movement. That being said, if the trucker in this story operated improperly, then he should be charged. Regardless, when 2 ton car meets 50 ton truck, Newton's Laws of Motion state quite clearly that 2 ton car loses. Remember the old highway safety slogans - Drive Defensively and Watch Out For The Other Guy.

I say if you drive a semi and take a wrong exit, then you just have to go with it and find someplace down that road to turn around. You can't go zipping back out of the exit lanes like cars can sometimes do.

There's really no solid information on this, so nobody knows why the truck driver changed direction. This story itself isn't clear or concise. There are many, many nasty, selfish, thoughtless, inconsiderate, arrogant people in this world driving all manner of vehicles with all manner of attitude. In my personal experience with drivers of big rigs, if you show them respect, 9 times out of 10, they'll return that respect. Not so much with other automobile drivers, though.

Just a little reminder that the interstate highway system was constructed for the benefit of interstate commerce in addition to expediting deployment of the military during times of national emergency and not for passenger cars. Stay off the interstate if you don't like or fear trucks.

Or maybe the truck driver wasn't familiar with the area and it was truly just an accident. Just a thought.

Why don't they print the name of the company that owns the trucks? We could all be safer if we stay away from certain company trucks.
