In Fort Wright, Brazen Crooks broke in and ransacked two homes. Police say the thieves seem to know what they're after and they work fast. Local 12's Paula Toti says police believe the break-ins are unusual in how bold they are.
Two homes were hit in broad daylight Saturday afternoon. The crooks are tossing things around and going after jewelry, cash and electronics. The homes have been dusted for prints, and now the same is being done to the biggest item stolen.
A silver Infinity M45 was stolen by burglars Saturday afternoon, and found in a no parking zone in Sedamsville Monday on River Road. The owners of the car are thrilled the car seems to be in great shape. The burglars found the keys to that car on the kitchen counter in one of the homes being ransacked.
"This was all the stuff that was all over the floor. I'm trying to decide what to keep and what to throw away." Gloria and Ron Johns have cleaned most of the mess made by the burglars, but the back door still shows the damage from being forced open, and where police have dusted for prints.
"I had jewelry in here and it's gone and this had jewelry and it's gone." The couple left their Fort Wright home on General Drive around two Saturday afternoon for a brief shopping trip with their dogs. In that time their 50 inch television was taken from the family room and a 32 inch from the master bedroom.
It was a similar scene at another home a few blocks away on Fort Henry Drive. "The way they got in, they kicked in a door, I believe they were watching the residences and knew when people had left."
"You do feel violated, you hear about it, friends go through it, when it happens personally it's different."
For now the Johns are focusing on the positive, they have their car back it too has sentimental value, it was once a birthday gift for Gloria.
A lot of jewelry that had been in both of their families is missing and while the thieves bypassed many older computers they took a newer Apple laptop. Police say if you see a 32 inch and 50 inch television and Apple laptop in the same place take notice. The Johns are now getting a security system.
