A 17 year old girl faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter for a crash that killed another teen last month.  The driver, and three other passengers were all seriously injured in the crash, which happened near Waynesville on January 26th.

Investigators say a 17 year old Chelsea Miller pulled onto a side road from a BP gas station on Main Street near Ohio State Route 73 and into the path of an SUV. Millers' front seat passenger,  17 years old Alexis Smith of Beavercreek, died in the crash. 19 year old Ricky Kemp of Franklin, who was sitting in the backseat, was thrown from the vehicle. 18 year old Ricky Dixon of Springboro, also in the backseat, was trapped for a time in the wreckage. Those two passengers were in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital after the crash.

Miller sustained serious injuries as well.  Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers say the charge she now faces is a misdemeanor.

The SUV driver suffered minor injuries, according to WHIO-TV in Dayton.

I think the driving age should be changed to 19.

It sounds like she was obviously in the wrong and I feel for all the families involved. My question however is how did the SUV get up enough speed to do that much damage on a "side road" just a short distance from an intersection. The BP station had be located on a corner to be able to pull out onto a side road.
