(CNN) - In the 1970's it was hard to find a taxi driver or firefighter with a college degree, not so today.
In fact, 48 percent of college grads in the U.S. are overqualified for their jobs.
That's from a study released Monday by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity.
The findings point to a growing disconnect between what employers need and the kind of graduates that institutions of higher learning are churning onto the job market.
Researchers see this as a trend, predicting the underemployment problem is going to get worse in the future.
