HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) - U.S. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio will face fellow Republicans in a conservative county about a week after announcing he supports gay marriage.

Portman will be the featured speaker Saturday at the Butler County GOP's Lincoln Day dinner. The Republican-dominated county north of Cincinnati is home to House Speaker John BoehneR, who repeated his opposition to same-sex marriage after Portman's reversal on the issue.

Portman told reporters last week that he began changing his views in 2011 when his college-age son Will told his parents he was gay.

Ohio Republican Party chairman Bob Bennett has said there was a flurry of calls at first upset about Portman's change, but they soon died down.

Secretary of State Jon Husted also will speak Saturday.

bills000 - I failed to read any "hatered" in Cincinnatus's post. Differing opinions do not constitue hatered (at least last time I checked they didn't) It seems the hatred being discussed here is self owned.

bill: I forgive your mis-characterization. There is no hatred of people implied by disapproving of one aspect of their behavior, or by disapproving of one of their demands. It seems like you have it all backwards. Activists tend to hate whoever doesn't agree with every aspect of whatever they are an activist about.

" According to the new Pope, it comes from the Father of Lies. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well Cincinnatus..Im glad your pope doesnt make the rules for all of us..now if you want to bow down before a man that claims he is a servant of god..then so be it..but for you to come on here and spout your haterd for gay and say its because the pope say it..is pretty stupid

Now this next one is sure to get comments removed. GLSEN and the stupid city council is pretending that GLSEN was "discriminated" against because they are for gay rights. Well guess what. It turns out they were allowed in the parade last year and broke the rules, so they were disallowed this year just like other organizations that break the rules. The truth doesn't get any political mileage for them though. They are a pathetic people. http://www.local12.com/content/12links/redirect/Letter-from-Cincinnati-St-Patrick-Parade-Committee/YlUunCo3IUGMV-QbzxF0lA.cspx

In my opinion Portman has the same problem as neglectful parents in the 'hood. They love their son so they sugarcoat whatever their son does. That's not real love though. That's a form of enabling. One can love a gay relative and not approve of one aspect of their behavior, the same as one can love an alcoholic and not approve of their drinking.

navrat: I was going to ask the same thing. I know we can't criticize this news channel. I know people who had their handle suspended for it before. However we should be able to criticize gay marriage. According to the new Pope, it comes from the Father of Lies.
