Cincinnati Police on Monday released security video of a suspect wanted for questioning in the murder of a security guard at the Hilton Netherland Plaza hotel in Downtown Cincinnati. 58-year-old Richard Campbell was found dead on Friday, on his birthday, stabbed in a stairwell while covering an unscheduled shift.
Today officers released security photos of a white man who appears to be between the ages of 20 and 30 years who is wanted for questioning in Campbell's murder. The suspect has dark hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and jeans with a white or light colored shirt underneath a jacket and carrying a red messenger bag. He appears to try to tiptoe past the lobby, then casually walks toward a set of outside doors.
Campbell called for help on his radio around 5 a.m. on Friday. The hotel called police. Police found Campbell's body in a stairwell. Detectives say he died of a stab wound, though no weapon was found.
Officials say Campbell had worked at the hotel for about 8 years. He was killed on his birthday-a day he was supposed to have off but he had been called in to cover a shift. Campbell had just arrived and hadn't even clocked in yet when he was attacked. Officials say Campbell was also a Vietnam Veteran. Workers were deeply affected by the news-they said the guard was well-loved and will be deeply missed.
