CNN (LINDEN, Ca.) - A California High School student said she caught a trusted teacher stealing from her classmates.

CNN affiliate KXTV reported Justine Betti and other students in her gym class began noticing money and other items missing from their backpacks.

She decided to hide inside a locker to watch.

Her very popular teacher and 30 year veteran was going through student backpack's appearing to take money.

Betti felt she had to do something, so she put herself in a locker again, this time holding a phone video camera, putting another phone camera in another locker.

"Right when I got the video, I was like, oh my gosh, I can't believe I got this on video and I couldn't believe that I got it and I kept watching it over and over," said Betti.

She and other girls took the video to the principal. She said the principal told her to delete the video.

But it was too late, many others had also sent the video out by then.

The school district and local authorities are investigating. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave.

The principle must have been getting a cut. Fire them both and revoke their teaching certificates. Yes, embarrass them both....this is just plain shameful behavior by the teacher, and the principle for wanting to protect her. She's been teaching long enough to be earning a comfortable living and shouldn't have to steal for any reason.

The catch phrase was "30 year" that's why the principle said to erase it.

Barnyard ... I have to agree with you ... In addition, stealing is stealing .. doesn't matter how much money or what type of items were in the back packs ... just doesn't matter. I am glad the video was no deleted. After the so called investigation .. hopefully, she can answer to criminal charges.

Pitiful. How much money do these kids leave in their lockers? Must be some upscale school in California, idk.

You gotta be kidding. Here we have a teacher, who was respected and trusted by the students, stealing from them. Then, to top it off, the school principal tells the student to delete the video. Both should be doing jail time.
