The parents of a Brown County boy who was shot in the head and later died are now facing charges. Officers say 34 year old Chris Swartz and 34 year old Shanna Swartz, the mother and father of 9 year old Sebastian Swartz, left a fully loaded gun out in plain site.
Swartz was shot on February 18th at the family's home in the small community of Decatur. Sebastian was apparently handling his father's Glock handgun, which had a laser site.
Sebastian's 14 year old sister saw him playing with the gun, and tried to take it away from him-that's when it went off. Sebastian was then flown to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. He died one week after the shooting.
The little boy's father is a retired military police officer and very familiar with the handgun. At the time of the shooting, Sebastian's father told police he usually keeps it unloaded but not this time.
The Swartz's both face felony child endangering charges. They face up to three years in prison if convicted.
