NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Beneath a seemingly ordinary domestic facade in a Chicago-area suburb harsh resentments between a husband and wife festered and spiraled into shocking violence, prosecutors say, ending in the stabbing deaths of two children.
Elzbieta Plackowska, a 40-year-old Polish immigrant living in Naperville, is accused of killing her own 7-year-old son, Justin, and a 5-year-old girl she was babysitting. Authorities say Justin was stabbed 100 times.
Naperville's police chief said the crime scene was the most gruesome sight he'd witnessed in three decades on the job.
DuPage County prosecutors say Plackowska committed the crime out of anger at her often-absent, truck driver husband.
Plackowska was charged late Wednesday with first-degree murder. Authorities say she had no record of violence, and a judge Thursday appointed a public defender to take her case.
