MIAMI TWP. -- Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers have identified the pilot of the plane that crashed Monday night as 50-year-old Douglas Morgan.

They are saying the plane ran out of fuel before crashing near the I-675/I-75 interchange. Morgan is at Kettering Medical Center, listed in stable condition.

According to troopers, Morgan flew out of Middletown Regional Airport, just to fly around a little, but the plane ran out of fuel before he made it back to Middletown. Troopers said Morgan attempted to land at Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport. The other man who was injured in the crash has not yet been identified.

According to the FAA, the plane that crashed Monday night is owned by Doug Morgan Construction LTD of Middletown. A Harold H. Morgan was issued his pilot's license in July 2012, according to the FAA.

Earlier in the day, police said the pilot admitted to drinking before he flew the plane but it's not clear whether officers are planning to pursue charges stemming from that confession.

Miamisburg resident Steve Pleasant told WHIO-TV he saw a small airplane flying low and it appeared to crash on the other side of a tree line. He said the crash “lit up the whole sky.”

Area residents also reported to WHIO-TV of hearing at least two explosions.  Officers searched the field with flashlights by the Miamisburg water tower near I-75.

Private jest have a prop? Since when? LOL! Unless we start giving a breathalyzer to anyone getting ready to operate ANYTHING, there will always be some Mo-Ron who will drive or fly or operate machinery while intoxicated.

What possessed this guy to climb into the pilot's seat when he was drunk? The FAA does NOT mess around. He spent years and many dollars getting his pilot's license, and now he will NEVER fly again. They won't even let this guy stand on a tall ladder.

His flying days are over and his insurance is probably canceled as well.

bjoh249- are you serious? Do you have any idea what you just said? It is obvious you don't have the slightest clue of what is going on. Its FAA, it was a private plane not a private jet, and the pilot right now is in for a world of hurt from the FAA like you wouldn't imagine. This isn't like driving a car. The reason you don't hear about stuff like this in aviation is because the rules and restrictions are way far greater than jumping into an automobile. Then when one is involved in something like this, the punishment is far greater.

That dunce could have hurt somebody on the ground. The FFA needs to crack down on these private jets that anybody can fly without security and other checks first.

I'd say he couldn't have been too drunk if he knew he was going down and shut off his fuel lines! Lesson learned????
