A veteran Norwood police officer who was investigation for allegedly pushing a handcuffed prisoner into a wall and breaking her arm, has resigned his job.  40 year old Robert Ward also entered a "no contest" plea today to an assault charge related to the incident., which was caught on surveillance video at the police department jail.

Ward, a 16-year veteran, was put on paid administrative leave while a special prosecutor looked into the case. After his plea today, he was sentenced to a 180 day jail sentence, which was then suspended.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on August 11th when 30-year-old Denise Diallo of Lexington came to the police station to ask about some property in a previous case. She was told that nothing could be done.

According to the police report, Diallo then slammed the phone against the wall. Officer Ward came into the lobby, there was an argument and Diallo was told she was under arrest. The police report says she ran away and was taken to the ground by Officer Ward and another cop.

The report says Diallo scratched and kicked at the officers. She was then brought back to the jail-where the video shows Officer Ward basically throwing the handcuffed woman against the wall. She was later taken to the hospital. "There was a use of force report and we do a review of each use of force report, so when they realized what happened at the jail and then pulled the video that's when we observed the behavior."

Charges  of resisting arrest and criminal trespass against Diallo have been dropped.

ward is not the only bad cop in norwood i was charged with 4 accounts of robbery after getting beat up by the officer chris and am facing 18 years in prison when i did nothing......they say i stole a kids cell phone but i posted a $4,000 bond next day and when the courts found out officers had lied about me having a weapon they added 3 more cops as witnesses the entire police station is compromised IMO

And now Officer Ward in more trouble. He has been a hot head like this for a long time and most officers on the police force knew that. He also has a history of lying to make cases. I just feel sorry for all that have been hurt financially, physically and mentally by this guy. Almost questions if the city should review any other cases that Mr. Ward handled.

As pro cop as I am, the tape of this is way too brutal for a bldg full of male officers, any one of which has the means, training and equipt to bring this nutjob down without all of her drama having to extend to the officers.

perhaps the sanitation dept is better suited than the police dept. to handle trash.

Some people just dont get it steve9306. Cops deal with a lot of crap but they also choose to do this for a living. There was no reason for him to throw her against a wall like that while she is in hand cuffs. Jail would have been enough and she would have had all night to think about her crappy attitude. A lot of people on this website seem to believe that what ever a cop tells you to do, no matter what since hes a cop, you have to do it or you deserve whatever comes your way. But this is Cincinnati....lol

Chenoosesmom, All Officer ward had to do was put her in the jail cell. He was going to go home, have dinner, see his family, and watch TV. While the woman would sit in a jail cell all night long. Once the cell door closes Officer Ward wins. Instead he lost-because he threw her against the wall, filed a false report, is now a criminal and no longer a police officer.
