No Citation In Pendleton County Bus Crash

The school bus driver likely to blame for a crash that injured ten students in Pendleton County will not be cited for the accident.  Meanwhile, two of the students remain hospitalized this morning.

Officials believe the school bus driver, Janet Elliot of Falmouth, pulled out in front of a pickup truck after turning around at a business.  The bus was hit in the side by the pickup truck driven by Odes Milner of Berry, Kentucky.

The crash happened at 4 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Route 27 just south of Falmouth shortly after the bus driver picked up 28 students from the high school. There were also one elementary and one middle school student onboard.

Ten students and Milner were rushed to the hospital.  Two of the students were taken by Air Care helicopters and those two students remain in the hospital today, according to the sheriff.  The rest of those injured were treated and released.

The sheriff's department tells Local 12 that because Kentucky is a "no-fault" state, Elliot will not face charges.  "No-fault" means no traffic citations are issued unless an officer witnesses an infraction.

The Pendleton County school superintendent says Elliot and Milner were tested for drugs but the results of those tests won't be known for several weeks.  Elliot has worked for the school for several years and was subbing for the regular driver.

Local 12 continues to follow this story and we'll post new information here as soon as it is released.
