Newport Central Catholic students kicked off the school's largest food drive ever this morning.
They're collecting donations at the school on Carothers Road through next Friday. The students are trying to fill up a moving truck and a large trailer with non-perishable food. They got a good start today with a number of students bringing bags and boxes of food.
Students say they're aware of how much food they need to meet their goal. "We were a little nervous that the truck was too big but I think people are going to see that it's necessary so we're definitely going to fill it, don't worry."
They're also asking the community to pitch in. They'll accept food and cash every weekday morning from 7:30 to 8 next week.
All the donations will go to the Brighton Center in Newport, and the Saint Bernard Food Pantry in Dayton Kentucky.
If the students meet their goal, they get a day off from school.
