COVINGTON - Authorities said a driver in a moving truck misjudged how much room they had under a Covington bridge and got stuck.

It happened under the stone bridge at West 8th Street near Russell shortly after 1:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Part of the truck buckled at the sides. Crews spent several hours working to pull the truck out and checking to see if the bridge had been damaged.

gpsman - 11:21 AM - I agree with you. I hope the driver had insurance.

Yes, the "clearance" is posted. People with no truck driver training think driving even a little rental truck is identical to driving a car. It never occurs to them to think of headspace because they have no experience thinking of headspace, or tail swing. The rear-end extends well behind the rear axle, so when you turn R, the L-rear swings L. The average motorist has no training or experience compensating for the operational intricacies of even small "trucks".

You guys got it all wrong. That truck was hauling that bridge when it ran out of gas. :)

This doesn't appear to be a "worker". Looks to me like somebody who had no clue rented a moving truck and didn't pay any attention to the very clearly marked height limit sign.
