A new musical opened this week at the Aronoff Center, Downtown.
"Memphis" is drawing great reviews from those who've seen it.
It's the story of the first southern radio disc jockey to play African American music on an all white station, causing quite a stir in Memphis as you might imagine.
The show is based loosely on the life of Dewey Phillips, "Daddy-O" Phillips.
Local 12 talked to the actress who plays the D.J.'s momma who says it's a journey which shows us how music brings us all together.
"I have a great number where momma finally has her redemption. She goes to a gospel church and she testifies. Anybody from the south knows when you testify, hurl it out there, so there's some great moments in the show where you laugh," said actress Julie Johnson.
The show runs through Februrary 3. Tickets start at $28 at the Aronoff Box Office.
