TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man who took refuge in a stranger's house after he was swept away by Superstorm Sandy left behind a note to his father in case he didn't survive.

The man, identified only as Mike, was taken by waves and currents into Barnegat Bay after the storm destroyed part of his home in Toms River.

He tells radio station WOBM in Toms River he tried to swim back but ended up at a stranger's empty home, soaking wet with barely any clothing.

After wrapping his body in towels, he wrote a letter to the homeowner saying he didn't take anything. He left a phone number to tell his father that he loved him. The homeowner later returned to find note, but not the man.

He was rescued and reunited with his family in Bergen County.
