A local family is offering support to a Florence boy who was injured when he was hit in the head by a baseball during a little league game.

12 year old Aaron Fox was hurt while pitching a game for the Florence Storm last Thursday night. He suffered a fractured skull and is in a medically induced coma. He will be for several more days to reduce swelling on his brain but doctors are pleased with his progress.

Another local family understands the anguish that Fox's parents feel. Aluminum bats and faster balls are making it more dangerous for kids on the field and they're pushing to teams to adopt new helmet regulations to keep players safe. The Cincinnati Stix team wears protective fielders helmets. The older brother of one of the players on the team was hit in the head by a ball while pitching eleven months ago.

Cole Schlesner and his dad Scott visited the Fox's at the hospital and offered their support. After Cole's accident, the coach found the helmet made by a company called Allstar. They fit like a ballcap, don't flop around and the kids say they feel safer on the field.

A non-profit group formed after Cole's accident, to help with his recovery, is now raising money to buy helmets for local teams. Loveland's little league got a donation to cover the cost of helmets for their teams on Tuesday. The helmets cost $20-25 each.

Meanwhile, Cole plans to play summer league ball and Aaron continues his recovery.

I hope this young lad will be ok. As a former little league pitcher I was struck in the throat by a line drive but fortunately was ok. There are risks with any sport.......On the matter of "Jim Schu" being old, I can attest to that!! My "older than dirt (or sand)" association grants me the qualifications to CONFIRM Jims biological clock is "so old" the sun must be out to properly cast its shadow on the appropriate roman numeral.....

Jim Schu, How in the heck did you know it was Wabbit season? I had to stop myself from wondering how often she "flips" in the Xenia Missing Woman thread. Silly, silly Wabbit.

Jim – So far ....... With that understanding; and I am in no way attempting to coerce you into surrendering your 5'th Amendment 'rights' ..... Are you denying (by refusing to incriminate yourself) that you are Dr Frankenstein (... steen) ... or 'Eye'gore? I understand you may not wish to admit .... you are OLD! But, there are lots of old people – you are not alone. You can take solace in that fact ..... at least until ObamaCare kicks in ............

Jaspermom. What?! Old?! Me?! WHERE in the hell would you get an idea like that? I’m not even 50 yet! Issachar is OLD. But the point of my comment was that NamVet is older than dirt!!! (Well, at least sand, anyway). LMAO. Open season on Jim was last Sunday. I believe it is now Wabbit season.

i hope aaron fully recovers....my daughter is 8 and just started playing softball this year. our batters wear helmets, but not in the out/in field. i just went to dicks today and purchased a face guard for her to wear the whole game. the gentleman at dicks sporting goods said he thought it would be a rule by next year that all players wear a face guard. stay strong aaron.....and to his family as well
