A local family is offering support to a Florence boy who was injured when he was hit in the head by a baseball during a little league game.
12 year old Aaron Fox was hurt while pitching a game for the Florence Storm last Thursday night. He suffered a fractured skull and is in a medically induced coma. He will be for several more days to reduce swelling on his brain but doctors are pleased with his progress.
Another local family understands the anguish that Fox's parents feel. Aluminum bats and faster balls are making it more dangerous for kids on the field and they're pushing to teams to adopt new helmet regulations to keep players safe. The Cincinnati Stix team wears protective fielders helmets. The older brother of one of the players on the team was hit in the head by a ball while pitching eleven months ago.
Cole Schlesner and his dad Scott visited the Fox's at the hospital and offered their support. After Cole's accident, the coach found the helmet made by a company called Allstar. They fit like a ballcap, don't flop around and the kids say they feel safer on the field.
A non-profit group formed after Cole's accident, to help with his recovery, is now raising money to buy helmets for local teams. Loveland's little league got a donation to cover the cost of helmets for their teams on Tuesday. The helmets cost $20-25 each.
Meanwhile, Cole plans to play summer league ball and Aaron continues his recovery.
