A Tri-State man is charged after allegedly shooting his dog.The Highland County Dog Warden, Cathy Seifer, says it’s the worst case of animal cruelty she’s ever scene.
The dog's former owner, Russell E. Mccarty, 55, of Hillsboro, is facing an animal cruelty charge, according to Seifer. McCarty faced a judge in Hillsboro Municipal Court on Wednesday.
Seifer said a concerned citizen called her on August 26th about a dog shot on Cynthiana Road. There was no exact address and she couldn’t find the dog for several days.
Seifer was finally able to locate the dog on August 30th on Cynthiana Road on McCarty’s property.
The dog, named Jake, was under a truck cap chained on McCarty's property. “But I got there and he just wagged his tail, the happiest dog ever,” said Seifer.
The dog has been shot in the leg and above the left eye in the head. The bullet was lodged in his jaw.
Seifer took the dog straight to the vet to see if he could be saved. Surgery was needed to get the bullet out of the dog's head.
Seifer then packed up Jake and brought him home with her to recover. After a few weeks, he began to pick up weight.
Last Saturday, Jake was accepted by Lamancha Animal Rescue in Unionville, Pa.
