They were on final approach. They hit trees and crashed in a field very close to the runway. They weren't 40 miles from the airport when this happened.

Low visibility with fog and rain indicates IFR(instrument flight rules) conditions. An earlier article said the plane crashed 40 miles from the airport. If so I doubt that lack of runway lights had anything to do with the crash. I would like to know why that plane could not fly IFR right to the landing field.

Can you change "Dog" to "Don"? You have him listed as Dog on one of the lines...

Is it just me, or does it seem as if there have been a goodly number of plane crashes in this particular area? Glad I didn't know that when my Dad went up there to skydive for his 80-th b-day, last year!

If you fly small planes you should have it set in your mind that you may not be able to keep tight schedules. The updraft in a thunderhead can shoot a small plane up to 30,000 ft where there is not enough oxygen to survive.

I feel sure this was weather related. It was nasty out Sunday evening. Condolences to all the families.
