Governor Ted Strickland will be in town as part of a big announcement to revitalize the GE Aircraft Engine plant in Evendale. Local 12's Jeff Hirsh has more on the plans for the facility and why it's so important to the Tri-State.
A recent defense spending bill signed by President Obama includes the joint strike fighter and GE makes the engine for that jet. The company also makes engines for the Army's Blackhawk helicopter.
Strickland will promise at $120 million tax credit to GE. In return, GE promises to keep 5400 jobs at the plant for the next 18 years. The company will also spend $100 million to revitalize the plant.
The University of Cincinnati is also negotiating to put an aerospace research facility at the GE site. We'll have more on this story coming up on Local 12 at Five.
