CINCINNATI - After more than a year of investigating, police have made an arrest in deadly home invasion in Roselawn.
Cincinnati Police said Daryrel Scott, 20, broke into an apartment where Carey Barnes was staying with his fiancée in August of 2011.
Investigators said Barnes tried to prevent Scott from going upstairs where three children were sleeping, and that's when Scott shot him. Barnes was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
Barnes' family told Local 12's Angela Ingram he was a Little League Coach and he loved kids, even though he didn't live long enough to have any of his own. His family said they've been waiting more than a year for justice, and now they're praying for closure.
"I'm very grateful they caught someone and it's just good to know that he will not have that opportunity to hurt anyone else and to hurt anyone else's family," said Candice Barnes, the sister of Carey Barnes.
Barnes was a little league coach and was excited to start his own family after his marriage.
