The Hamilton County Coroner has identified the driver who died in a fiery crash in O'Bryonville early Friday morning. A pickup truck rolled and caught fire after hitting two utility poles and knocking out power to the neighborhood.
The crash happened at 2 a.m. in the 2100 block of Madison Road. Officers say 32 year old William Fox was driving a Ford truck east on Madison Road when he lost control and drove off the right side of the roadway. The truck hit a utility pole, flipped on its side, then struck another utility pole. The truck caught fire and became engulfed in flames.
Fox died at the scene. Police believe speed and alcohol played a role in the crash.
Hours after the crash, Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi K. Sammarco put out a call for help, saying the damage from the crash and the flames destroyed all evidence of the driver's identity-the truck's registration and VIN number were damaged beyond recognition. Dr. Sammarco says Fox bought the truck nine days ago, so the cardboard temporary tag was destroyed by the fire.
At 3 p.m., the coroner's office released a statement naming the driver. Dr. Sammarco says Fox had a screw in his shoulder, which was used as a point of identification through matching previous medical records and X-rays her office took of the body.
