PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - One adult and four children were killed in an overnight fire in eastern Kentucky.
Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts confirmed the deaths. The fire started just after 2:30 this morning in the Jonancy community.
Officials with the Pikeville Fire Department tell WKYT-TV that four children, ages 5, 4, 2 and 6 months, along with their father, were killed in the fire. A woman, the children's mother, was flown out to UK Hospital. There is no word on her condition. No other information is being released at this time.
The director of personnel at Pike County Schools, Ralph Kilgore, says they are still waiting on positive identification, but have been informed that one, and possibly two of the two children, are part of the Pike County School System. He says that one student was a kindergarten student at G.F.Johnson Valley Elementary School. They have a response team there, meeting to discuss how to handle the situation.
