The Cincinnati Fire Department announced that the application to sign up for the Firefighter's exam starts today.

The last CFD recruit class graduated in 2009. CFD is recruiting for a broad and diverse group of qualified applicants. The department wants to have a class of about 40 people initially. It expects 5000 people to apply.

The city is having money problems, but the fire department hopes to get money from other sources. Assistant Fire Chief Roy Winston tells Local 12 News: "One thing the fire department has done is to explore some of the federal dollars that are available through the various grants that are available, so we feel .. we're optimistic about receiving some of those federal dollars to fund those classes."

Sign ups to take the exam are completely online this year.

Please Not: Applicants must sign up online to take the exam on August 4 at 9 a.m. at the Duke Energy Center.

I bet there is a whole lotta "affirmative action" going on with this recruitment. I had a relative that got highest scores on all parts of another city's fire dept exams, and he expected to get the job, but they grossly padded the scores of minority applicants in order to get one to have higher final scores than him. If you happen to be a black gay muslim female, you will be a shoe-in. If you are a white Christian male, forget it.

I respect most firefighters very much. We know that all firehouses are not equal. At a time when we have over 4 million unemployed private sector people ,Obama spent 125 billion of the stimulus to give union public school teachers raises as payoff while these union goons continued to do everything in their power to raise taxes on the unemployed , fixed income people, and everyone else. Cincinnati thinks that building streetcars is more important than police or fire protection.I dont agree with that. They just raised property taxes because they dont have enough money. I hate to see any one layed off. I see nothing wrong with the gradual reduction of manpower to proper levels through gradual attrition. CFD still sends pumpers on ambulance runs and CPS still has its ridiculous cavalry. We are becoming South Detroit. Public Sector Union Featherbedding at the expense of the shrinking pool of workers who put more money into the system than they take out, cant be sustained.

Baloney...one would think that after the devasting toll that 911 took and continues to take on the heroic firefighters who ran into buildings that quite a few knew they would never make it out of, that you might show a bit more respect and compassion for the folks that whether it is 10 below zero, 105 degrees or plane bombed buildings, they are dedicated and committed to saving lives...even yours. I can't believe Americans anymore...just freaking plain mean-spirited and doing their best to put other Americans out of work. Shameful and ungrateful. :(

They will probably get money from Obama as a payoff for their support, so that they can continue to staff a City of 300,000 with a Fire Dept for 500,000. Taxpayers screwed again.
