A trio of men and women are now facing more serious charges in the death of a Maysville man. A Grand Jury indicted Minnie Robertson, Amber Lovell and Matthew Brock today for second degree manslaughter.  They had previously been charged with wanton endangerment.

The charges stem from the death of 21 year old Michael Ryan Cooper. A driver spotted Cooper's body on July 27th in a wooded area along Route 8 outside Maysville near the new Ohio River Bridge.

According to police reports, it appears this was a road trip to buy drugs that ended in tragedy. Cooper's family says he was no angel and admits there may be plenty of blame to go around. But, they believe he didn't have to die if some others had simply done the right thing.

Just down river from Maysville along Route 8, a makeshift memorial stands where police found Cooper's body last Friday. They think he'd been here since 6:30 Wednesday. Police reports say Cooper was in Robertson's car with Lovell, Brock and Robertson's baby at the end of a road trip. Maysville Major Lisa O'Hearn says, "It appears as though the four together may have been in the Cincinnati area and something transpired on the way back to the point where they dropped Mr. Cooper off in the area of Route 8."

The police reports are more specific. They claim the group had been to the city to buy heroin. Cooper shot up and apparently overdosed. The reports say Robertson, Lovell and Brock dumped Cooper at roadside while he was still breathing.

"Ryan would give you the shirt off his back. He would do anything you needed him to do for you."

Tammy Thoroughman is Cooper's aunt. The family is overcome with grief, anger and bewilderment. Thoroughman says, "You could have called us. We would have come and taken Ryan's body. We would have done what was necessary. Don't throw him away like trash... Ryan would have called me or his mom. He would have said, 'mom this is what happened or aunt Tammy this is what happened. Help me do what's right.' It would have been done the right way. It wouldn't have been taking them and dumping them some place and hoping nobody found 'em."

"Perhaps, we believe they should have provided medical attention to Mr. Cooper as needed."

The trio also faces charges of tampering with evidence.

According to the police reports, Robertson's one-and-a-half-month old child was also in the car when they dumped Cooper along Route 8.

If I recall correctly, a heroin OD victim close to death can be saved with intravenous shot of atropine. Medical pros, correct me if I'm wrong. Not getting someone medical help is the same as murder in a case like this.

Three persons charged with wanton endangerment related to the death of Michael Ryan Cooper had their first court appearance Wednesday. Matthew Brock, 25, Amber Lovell, 26, and Minnie Robertson, 23, all of Maysville appeared before 19th Judicial District Judge Todd Walton via video arraignment from the Mason County Detention Center. All three entered not guilty pleas to the charge of first-degree wanton endangerment. The arrests were made Monday by the Maysville Police Department during the investigation into Cooper's death. Cooper's body was found in a wooded area off Kentucky 8, Friday. According to official documents filed at the Mason County Circuit Clerk's office, Cooper, Brock, Lovell and Robertson were traveling to Mason County from Cincinnati, when Cooper allegedly overdosed on heroin. According to the documents, Cooper was still breathing when his body was left at the wooded area on Kentucky 8. During Wednesday's proceedings, Department of Public Advocacy Attorney Crystal Ball entered the not guilty pleas on each defendant's behalf, then asked the court for a "significant" reduction in bond for all three suspects. Brock is being held on $100,000 cash bond, while Lovell and Robertson are each being held on $50,000 cash bond at the Mason County Detention Center. For each request, Mason County Attorney John Estill argued each suspect is a flight risk, and due to the nature of the alleged crime, bond should not be reduced. Walton ruled in favor of the prosecution in each case, denying the requests. Although Ball represented the three suspects during Wednesday's proceedings, Walton ordered an attorney from the Department of Public Advocacy office be assigned to each defendant. Brock, Lovell and Robertson are scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Walton on Wednesday, Aug. 8

I wonder if something like this happened to Paige Johnson but with fatal results. The last known guy that she was with was an alleged drug dealer/user, that allegedly provided her with alcohol possibly drugs. Some speculate that they may have been on a drug run, and Paige Johnson may have overdosed, and that Jacob Bumpass may have ditched the body somewhere. Jacob Bumpass's cell phone pings suggests he did a lot of traveling the night to Paige Johnson disappeared.

And what disturbs me the most, Robertson's new born infant was with them. With a drug addicted mother, this poor baby may not have a snow-ball day in hell for a safe & nurturing life.
