This story has been fishy since the father first opened his mouth. I am glad the kids have been removed until it is sorted out. I would not trust the parents at this point.

It is entirely possible that these kids WERE adopted. The money doesn't stop if you adopt these kids, you simply switch over to getting their social security checks...sometimes, adopting is more lucrative than just being a foster parent. Sad, but true. And YES, the govt can ABSOLUTELY take kids if they are yours!!! If there is evidence of abuse then they certainly can.

Chenoose: I agree with you on this. I think they were foster kids and the parents probably got disability checks and food stamps and maybe even a section 8 house, plus a huge tax refund each year. People who use kids just to get checks are never decent parents.

This whole thing is confusing. "Adopted" kids. Doubt that. With that many handicapped children living in the house I would suggest that they were foster kids -- there's lots of money in that. Doubt that they could afford to care for that many children without financial help. And finances are good reason for fostering that many disabled children. Taking care of children with problems pays much more money. Some folks make a living at that. I'm not saying that's what these folks were doing but something isn't right about the gov taking the kids. The gov can't just "take kids" if they are yours. That's procedures to be followed, etc. And if these children were beaten -- well take these two people out in the woods and beat them. The one child they sent back probably told about that -- and one last comment -- if the child was "adopted" they can't just "send him back" on the spur of the moment. As I said, they story doesn't make sense -- full of inconsistencies and untruths.

Taking the kids out of the home was a smart decision. The harrassment went on of for months and weeks and someone had to be removed from the home making the situation worse with the death threats. Until the investigatin is over, the kids are safe elsewhere. No descrition doesn't mean they don't have suspect. It could be because of the invesigation. I feel bad for those who went to a nursing home. What a horrible thing to do to those kids--not enough decent, qualified foster parents in our area I suppose, but at least the kids will be safe. The parents could get charged if abuse went on and that's why a family member was removed from the home. It depends on how long the abuse went on. So sad.

If it is true, I am just glad they got to the kids before we read..."Father and Mother of missing 16 year old Bright Teen killed family in apparent murder-suicide" Seems to be a growing trend in this country!

"Erik Balsley says he was told by officials that they were investigating claims that the children had been beaten with sticks." Hmmm... were they switches, limbs, tobacco sticks or two by fours? There's still a bunch of stuff missing from this so called news report... selling news by the eye-dropper is as bad as the actual news!

Wow, this story took a large twist. Wonder if the father will claim taking the children away from him is a "hate crime".
