SEATTLE (AP) - The U.S. Army is seeking to bar Staff Sgt. Robert Bales from using any sort of mental health defense to charges that he slaughtered 16 Afghan villagers last year because he has refused to take part in a review of his sanity.

Bales is due to appear in a military courtroom at Joint Base Lewis-McChord south of Seattle on Thursday. His lawyers say he will plead not guilty. He's accused of leaving a remote base in southern Afghanistan early on March 11 and raiding two villages.

Court documents provided to The Associated Press show that military prosecutors say Bales should not be allowed to have mental health experts testify about what effect his mental health might have had on his guilt or about whether he should face the death penalty.

Bales graduated from Norwood High School.

And "THIS GOVERNMENT" you talk about, morton, is OBAMA's government, not President Bush's government.

Excuse me; Obama pulled our troops out of Iraq and sent them all to Afghanistan, et al, for the last four years; don't make THIS about President Bush, THIS is all on Obama. In case your memory is broken, Obama's been doing this for the last 4 years, DERP.

Oh please! The armed forces should be ashamed of themselves, along with our government and especially George Bush. They send our soldiers over to kill the enemy, then are surprised (?) when something like this happens. I cannot begin to imagine the horrors soldiers have seen & endured over the years in battles. This government is an embarassment! Bless & pray for all military-past, present & future.

The Army is trying to hide something; just about every soldier coming home from those filthy sandbox countries has PTSD of some kind, and our Gov't damned well knows it. Man up, Army; take responsibility for the mess you made of our young men and women serving their country.
