United Nations Confirms Syria Used Chemical Weapons

Updated: Monday, September 16 2013, 11:58 PM EDT
SYRIA (WKRC) -- The United Nation’s investigation confirms chemical weapons were used on civilians, including children, in an attack last month in Syria.

The report comes as the international community calls on Syria to give up its chemical arsenal.  United Nations inspectors say blood and urine samples collected from victims show the nerve agent Sarin was used on civilians.  The team submitted a 39 page report detailing what they say is convincing evidence chemical weapons were used on a large scale in Damascus.

United Nations Secretary, General Ban Ki-Moon said, "This is the most significant confirmed use of chemical weapons against civilians since Saddam Hussein used them."

Inspectors say on August 21st, rockets filled with the nerve agent were used, killing hundreds of civilians.

Members of the United Nations Security Council are drafting a resolution to force Syria to get rid of its chemical weapons.United Nations Confirms Syria Used Chemical Weapons
