Slain Officer Honored Before Funeral

Updated: Thursday, September 26 2013, 03:48 PM EDT
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Squad cars have escorted the flag-draped coffin of a slain Indianapolis police officer to Bankers Life Fieldhouse as the start of his funeral approaches.
Eight uniformed officers carried Officer Rod Bradway's coffin from a hearse past more officers standing at attention and into the downtown arena shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday.
Hundreds of officers from around the state and nation are expected at the funeral later Thursday.
Police say the 41-year-old Bradway was fatally shot Friday after kicking in an apartment door in response to screams from a woman held at gunpoint by an ex-boyfriend. That man died after Bradway and another officer returned fire.
Bradway was married with two children.
Speakers for the funeral include Gov. Mike Pence and the mayor of Bradway's northern Indiana hometown of Nappanee.
