6 killed, officer hurt in crash near Ohio capital

Updated: Tuesday, October 29 2013, 10:01 AM EDT
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio (AP) -- Police say six members of a family were killed and an officer was injured when a car and a cruiser collided at an intersection northwest of Ohio's capital.
An officer from the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington was responding to an armed robbery report when the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Officials say the cruiser's lights were flashing and the siren was on.
Perry Township police Chief Robert Oppenheimer says a Columbus man was driving the other car, and his wife was in the front seat. The back-seat passengers were their four daughters, ages 16, 14, 12 and 2.
The local police union says the officer in the cruiser is being treated for a head injury at a hospital.
Oppenheimer says the officer is in shock over the deaths and hasn't been interviewed.
