New Poll: 86% Of Working Americans Plan To Online Shop During Work Hours On Cyber Monday

Updated: Tuesday, November 19 2013, 08:41 AM EST
UNDATED (WKRC) -- With only 26 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this holiday shopping season is one of the shortest on record. That makes the big sale days-- like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and now Thanksgiving-- more crucial than ever, both to retailers and consumers.

Cyber Monday has continually gained popularity. A new poll, conducted by Omnibus and commissioned by RetailMeNot.com, found that consumers most commonly describe Cyber Monday as convenient (58%), useful (54%) and exciting (50%).

The poll also shows that nearly nine in ten (86%) working Americans plan to shop or browse online for gifts during work hours on Cyber Monday. In fact, one in four (25%) working Americans plan to spend four hours or more shopping online for gifts during work hours! Not surprisingly, 21% of these shoppers have been caught doing so!

Shoppers plan to spend an average of $167 per person on their gift list, and the poll broke down what exactly consumers will be shopping for this Cyber Monday including: electronics (62%), entertainment (59%) and clothing or shoes (51%). Similarly, these are typically the most deeply discounted categories on Cyber Monday.
