Homicide Investigation Closes Massachusetts School District

Updated: Wednesday, October 23 2013, 10:45 AM EDT
New Information: DANVERS, Mass. (AP) - A 14-year-old Massachusetts high school student is facing a murder charge in the death of a 24-year-old teacher found dead in the woods behind the school.
Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett on Wednesday identified the victim as Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer, of Andover.
He says police started investigating after they learned she had not returned home from work and was not answering her cellphone. Investigators found blood in a school bathroom and soon located the victim. Blodgett did not say how Ritzer died.
The boy is facing arraignment Wednesday on a murder charge. He was reported missing Tuesday after not returning home from school. He was found by Topsfield police late Tuesday night.
His name was not made public because of his age.
Danvers public schools are closed Wednesday.

DANVERS, Mass. (CBS) -- Danvers schools were closed Wednesday due to an "ongoing homicide investigation," according to the Essex District Attorney's Office, reports CBS Boston station WBZ-TV.

A spokesperson for the D.A. said more information would be provided at a morning news conference.

Danvers police had been searching for a missing 14-year-old student overnight.

Philip Chism had recently moved there from Tennessee.

He was last seen at the Hollywood Hits Cinema at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police would not comment on the search or the homicide investigation, referring all questions to the District Attorney's office, but they told WBZ parents needn't be concerned.
