Rainbow Looms Becoming A Hot Toy For Kids

Updated: Tuesday, November 26 2013, 09:44 AM EST
BOSTON (CBS) -- One of this year's hottest toys is the Rainbow Loom.

It's a plastic loom that comes with hundreds of colorful rubber bands from which kids can make bracelets or belts or any number of woven accessories.

Kids love it because they can make the wristbands quickly and in large quantities, then trade them with their friends.

The fad is attracting mostly girls, but some boys are also getting caught up in the craze.

A store owner in Framingham told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 the looms are flying off the shelves.

“It’s all (my daughter) wants for Christmas is all different colors. The kids are raging,” one mother told WBZ Monday. “She wants to wear them all the way up to her armpit. Every day I have to keep her down to three.”

Parents have to be cautious about potential circulation problems if their child wears too many of the rubber band bracelets.

One of the hottest colors is said to be orange, which is the color of many anti-bullying campaigns.

A kit costs about $17, which is good news for parents.

The bad news – you’ll have a lot of rubber bands all over your home.

The loom is recommended for children ages 8 and up.

However, some schools have banned them because they are causing distractions in the classroom.Rainbow Looms Becoming A Hot Toy For Kids
