Three Martinsville Employees Indicted for Stealing $100,000 from Village

MARTINSVILLE, Ohio (WKRC) -- Three Martinsville village employees are charged with stealing more than $100,000 of village funds over the past five years.

A Clinton County grand jury indicted Martinsville Village Council President, 74-year-old Carole Robinson and her grandson, James Robinson today on several charges including theft in office and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. James Robinson also faces drug charges. The Martinsville village administrator Patience Comberger is charged with theft in office.

The indictments of the three suspects came about after several people with access to village funds complained. The investigation revealed that Carole Robinson knowingly allowed both her friend, Patience Comberger, and her grandson, James Robinson, to be paid regular salaries despite never performing any work for the village.

Investigators also say Carole Robinson allowed James Robinson to spend tens of thousands of dollars of village funds on personal expanses including supplies for cooking methamphetamine. Investigators found four meth labs, allegedly operated by James Robinson, including one at the village pump house on SR 134.

Investigators say they have two more suspects, but they're not releasing their names because the investigation in ongoing.
