Man on Trial for Shooting Terminally Ill Wife

Updated: Monday, November 4 2013, 09:07 PM EST
AKRON, Ohio (WKRC) -- Statements are underway Monday in Akron for a man accused of shooting his terminally ill wife.

68-year-old John Wise could face life in prison if convicted of killing his wife last year as she lay debilitated in a hospital bed, unable to speak.

Friends have called it a mercy killing, but that's not a legal defense in Ohio.

A longtime friend of the couple said the two had agreed they didn't want to live out their years bedridden and disabled.
